Haydn: string quartets and the "sonata form"

DESCRIPTION

Austrian composer Joseph Haydn is, for many, the father of the string quartet. He left generations to come with important lessons on dramatic balance and symmetry of form. With this in mind, a recital dedicated to this facet of his work will surely remain a memorable experience. The Schumann Quartett will go over some of the most brilliant moments of Haydn's legacy to chamber music. Composed when he was 49, the audience will listen to examples of pieces dedicated to the great duke Paul of Russia, as well as to later and more though-out undertakings, such as a quartet composed almost at the end of his life.
