Biography

Aldo Sisillo completed his musical studies at the Conservatories of Naples and Bologna and graduated from  the University of Bologna in Discipline of the Arts, Music and Performing Arts summa cum laude. He  attended conducting courses with such Maestros as Massimo de Bernart, Vladimir Delman and Gianluigi  Gelmetti. 

He is regularly appearing as guest Conductor in Italy and abroad: Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano, Alessandro  Scarlatti Orchestra of RAI Naples, Arturo Toscanini of Emilia Romagna, Abruzzese Symphony Orchestra,  Sanremo Symphony Orchestra, European Union Chamber Orchestra, Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra,  Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra, St. Petersburg Philharmonic Academy Orchestra, Lübeck Philharmonic  Orchestra, New Haven Symphony Orchestra, Miskolc Symphony Orchestra, Guang Zhou Symphony  Orchestra, Hang Zhou Philharmonic Orchestra, Ostrava Janacek Philarmonic Orchestra, Savaria Symphony  Orchestra, Nordwestdeutche Philarmonie, Nurnenberger Simphoniker. Ravello Festival, Holland Festival in  Amsterdam. 

Aldo Sisillo has been and is regularly invited to conduct opera productions at the most outstanding  international Opera Houses: Teatro Comunale of Bologna, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Varna Festival, Teatro  Massimo Bellini in Catania, National Theater of Athens, Opera-Vallonie of Liège, Guang Zhou Opera House,  Opera of Tenerife and at the highest profile symphony and opera series in: Modena, Ferrara, Reggio Emilia,  Lucca, Livorno, Pisa, Sassari, Piacenza, Ravenna, Bergamo and Bolzano. 

In 2010 he conducted the first performance of the opera ‘Natura viva’ by Marco Betta and Ruggero  Cappuccio for the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. 

In 2008 he opened the season of the Florida Grand Opera in Miami (USA) with a new production of La  Traviata. 

On the first anniversary of the death of Luciano Pavarotti he conducted Verdi’s Requiem in Modena. In 2007 he attended and conducted the celebrations for the 150th Anniversary of the composer Giacomo  Puccini in Lucca, with a new production of the ‘Triptych’. 

In August 2018 he conducted the Orquestra Nacional de Chile in Santiago del Chile in a fantastic production  of Rossini’s Stabat Mater. The concert was reviewed by the online magazine Tuiteroscultura.com as the best  symphonic concert of the year and subsequently awarded with the Premios Toda la cultura 2018. 

Aldo Sisillo also devoted himself to the contemporary music leading several premieres for: Cantiere  Internazionale d’Arte in Montepulciano, Nuove Forme Sonore in Rome, the Estate Chigiana in Siena, the  Angelica Festival in Bologna, the Holland Festival. 

He has recorded for Fonit Cetra, Naxos and for Hermitage and has recorded major concerts for RAI  Radiotelevisione Italiana. 

His versatility included music compositions for productions performed at such series as :Biennale di Venezia,  the Festival Mondial de theater de Nancy, Festival de Commedia dell’Arte du Val de Marne, Santarcangelo  Festival, Rassegna dei Teatri Stabili in Florence. 

In addition to his Conductor’s career he is also very active as professional for musical services organization  while holding the position of Artistic Director for several relevant Music Institutions and entities.

He has been Founder, educational and artistic director of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Emilia Romagna  between years 1984 and 1994.  

Between years 1994 and 1996 he was the artistic and educational coordinator of the training courses of the  Orchestra managed by the Arturo Toscanini Foundation. 

He was in charge of the musical workshops of the Theater Craft Workshop led by Giuliano Scabia for the  Tuscan Regional Theater and of the Stanislavskij Project for the Theater Experimentation Center of  Pontedera.  

He also collaborated to the co – writing of the theatrical story ‘Il gorilla quadrumano’ (ed. Feltrinelli). 

He was a Jury member of the Geneva International Competition in 1992; he was sitting on Jury of the  European Project Pépinières in Norwich in 1993 (the project was arranged to promote the axctivity of the  young European composers) . 

Moreover he has been sitting on the Jury of Stresa International Competition in different years. 

He looked after the radio programs about the history of the flute and about the famous composer Ottorino  Respighi, the programs were broadcasted by RAI Radiotelevisione Italiana. 

From 1995 to 2000 he held the position of Artistic Secretary at Teatro Comunale di Bologna. Since 2005 he is Artistic Director of the Festival delle Nazioni in Città di Castello. 

Currently he holds the position of Director and Artistic Director of Fondazione del Teatro Comunale di  Modena, Italy.
