Biography
Italian soprano Benedetta Torre has rapidly established herself as one of the most distinguished lyric voices of her generation. Admired for the elegance of her singing, stylistic refinement and natural stage presence, she has become a sought-after interpreter of the Italian operatic repertoire, particularly the works of Mozart, Donizetti, Puccini and Verdi.
Born in Genoa in 1994, Torre began studying piano and voice in her hometown before continuing her artistic development under the guidance of celebrated soprano Barbara Frittoli. Early in her career she received major international recognition, winning prizes at the Francesco Paolo Tosti International Singing Competition, the Renata Tebaldi International Competition, the Portofino International Opera Competition, and later the Silver Star Prize at the prestigious Premio Chigiana.
Her operatic career has taken her to many of Europe’s leading opera houses and festivals, including the Teatro alla Scala, the Rome Opera, the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, the Salzburg Festival, the Glyndebourne Festival, the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels and the Arena di Verona.
She has collaborated with some of today’s most distinguished conductors, including Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Daniele Gatti, Stefano Montanari, Francesco Ivan Ciampa, Sesto Quatrini and Juraj Valčuha. Her repertoire includes celebrated roles such as Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Mimì (La Bohème), Micaëla (Carmen), Despina (Così fan tutte), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Musetta, Lauretta and Héro (Béatrice et Bénédict).
Alongside her operatic work, Torre is an accomplished concert artist, performing major sacred and symphonic repertoire including Mozart’s Requiem, Poulenc’s Stabat Mater, Mahler’s Fourth Symphony and works by Paisiello, Rossini and Handel. Her expressive musicianship and vocal elegance have earned widespread acclaim from audiences and critics alike.
