Biography

Norwegian lutenist André Lislevand has established himself as one of the most compelling performers of his generation in the field of early music. Celebrated for his technical mastery, expressive freedom and imaginative musicianship, he has brought new vitality to the lute repertoire through performances that combine historical awareness with remarkable artistic individuality.

Born into a distinguished family of musicians, Lislevand studied at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland, one of the world’s foremost institutions for historical performance. There he refined an artistic approach deeply rooted in historical scholarship while embracing the spontaneity and expressive richness that characterise his interpretations.

As both a soloist and chamber musician, he has appeared at leading concert halls and international festivals throughout Europe, collaborating with many of the most respected artists in the early music world. His repertoire spans the Renaissance and Baroque periods, with particular emphasis on composers such as John Dowland, Giovanni Girolamo Kapsberger, Alessandro Piccinini, Silvius Leopold Weiss and Johann Sebastian Bach.

Lislevand’s performances are distinguished by their warmth of tone, rhythmic vitality and remarkable capacity to reveal the expressive possibilities of historical plucked instruments.
