Enrico Dindo

Cellist - Italy

Biography

Italian cellist Enrico Dindo is regarded as one of the foremost cellists of his generation, celebrated for the nobility of his sound, exceptional musical sensitivity and profound interpretative insight. Since winning the First Prize at the Rostropovich International Cello Competition in Paris in 1997—where Mstislav Rostropovich himself chaired the jury—he has enjoyed a distinguished international career as a soloist, chamber musician and conductor.

Born into a family of musicians, Dindo studied at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Turin before refining his artistry under the guidance of Antonio Janigro. His career has taken him to many of the world’s leading concert halls, where he has appeared with renowned orchestras under the baton of distinguished conductors including Riccardo Chailly, Myung-Whun Chung, Gianandrea Noseda, Valery Gergiev and Riccardo Muti.

An equally devoted chamber musician, Dindo has collaborated with some of today’s most distinguished instrumentalists and has been a frequent guest at major international festivals throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia. His extensive discography—widely praised by critics—includes acclaimed recordings of the principal cello repertoire, as well as important rediscoveries of Italian twentieth-century composers.

Alongside his performing career, Dindo has made a significant contribution to music education. He has taught at leading conservatories and international academies, mentoring a new generation of cellists while serving as Artistic Director of several musical institutions and festivals. His commitment to artistic excellence and musical transmission has earned him widespread respect throughout the international music community.

Enrico Dindo performs on the celebrated Pietro Giacomo Rogeri cello of 1717, an instrument whose remarkable warmth and richness perfectly complement the expressive depth of his artistry.

At the XXI Cartagena International Music Festival, Enrico Dindo brings one of today’s most distinguished voices of the cello, combining virtuosity, elegance and profound musical expression in performances of exceptional artistic refinement.
