Biography

Colombian violinist Laura Hoyos belongs to a new generation of performers bringing Colombian musical talent to leading international stages. Her solid artistic training, musical sensitivity and constant pursuit of excellence have established her as one of the country’s most promising young violinists.

She began her musical studies under the guidance of her father and brother, developing from an early age a close affinity for chamber music and the symphonic repertoire. She later graduated with honours from The Mannes School of Music in New York, where she studied with the distinguished violinist Shmuel Ashkenasi, one of the foremost representatives of the international violin tradition.

Her artistic career has taken her to internationally renowned programmes such as the Keshet Eilon Masterclasses in Israel and the Lac Léman Music Masterclasses in Switzerland. She was also invited to join the international 24/04 Orchestra, performing in Yerevan during the centenary commemorations of the Armenian Genocide alongside young musicians from around the world.

Her musical leadership became evident during her tenure as Concertmaster of the Bogotá Youth Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra, where she collaborated with distinguished artists including Julian Rachlin, Krzysztof Penderecki and Andrés Orozco-Estrada, further establishing a career distinguished by artistic maturity, technical excellence and refined musicianship.

At the XXI Cartagena Music Festival, Laura Hoyos represents a new generation of Colombian violinists with an international outlook, bringing freshness, elegance and artistic excellence to the Festival’s musical programme.
