Santiago Medina Cuarteto

Quartet - Colombia
Festival de Música en Cartagena

Biography

The Santiago Medina Cuarteto is one of the most original and sophisticated ensembles emerging from Colombia’s contemporary music scene. Its artistic vision is rooted in the dialogue between tradition and innovation, reimagining Colombian popular music through a language that blends the country’s rich rhythmic and melodic heritage with the expressive world of classical music, jazz and contemporary Latin American traditions.

Led by Colombian violinist, composer and arranger Santiago Medina, whose versatile career moves naturally between the classical and popular music worlds, the quartet brings together outstanding musicians from Colombia’s vibrant contemporary scene. Together they have developed a distinctive musical voice in which improvisation, harmonic sophistication and a profound understanding of Colombian musical traditions come together in performances of remarkable sensitivity, energy and colour.

Rather than simply reinterpreting traditional repertoire, the Santiago Medina Cuarteto offers a new way of listening to it, preserving its essence while exploring fresh artistic possibilities that bring these traditions into dialogue with twenty-first-century audiences.

At the XXI Cartagena Music Festival, the Santiago Medina Cuarteto presents a fresh perspective on Colombian music, building a bridge between the country’s rich musical heritage and the evolving language of contemporary Latin American creation.
