Biography

The Philharmonic Youth Orchestra is one of the youth groups of the Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra, created to provide an important artistic and cultural space, with a high social sense, to young instrumentalists from various regions of Colombia.

It is formed by 40 talented musicians between 18 and 27 years of age who, during their time in the orchestra, acquire a vast and enriching orchestral experience. Its members approach the universal classical, Latin American and contemporary repertoire with great technical and interpretative skills, and prepare them remarkably as future musicians of important professional orchestras of the country and the world.

It has participated in important national and international festivals in Colombia and in highly demanding opera productions such as: Falstaff, by Verdi; Candide, by Bernstein; A Midsummer Night’s Dream, by Britten; Cinderella, by Rossini; Der Rosenkavalier, by Strauss; Madama Butterfly, by Puccini; Le nozze di Figaro, by Mozart; L’elisir d’amore, by Donizetti, and has performed under the baton of important Colombian and international guest conductors.

The Youth Philharmonic Orchestra of the Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra has a solid musical level that has been forged since its genesis by maestro Carlos Villa and nurtured and promoted by its current musical director, maestro Manuel López-Gómez.
