Biography
The Cartagena Symphony Orchestra (OSC) is a social project around symphonic music aimed at Cartagena citizens linked to a musical education process in the city. This project was born in 2016 as an initiative of the Salvi Foundation, the Puerto de Cartagena Foundation, RCN and the Mayor’s Office of Cartagena. It seeks for young symphonic instrumentalists to complement their musical education through an artistic and educational immersion experience. Likewise, it is a point of reference and opportunity for professional, social and cultural growth for music students and practitioners.
Between 2016 and 2019 the Orchestra functioned as a temporary group that was activated during each edition of the Cartagena Music Festival, selecting its members annually through an open audition. Since 2020, thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture, the project has been operating as a stable orchestra of and for the young musicians of Cartagena de Indias. It seeks, among other things, to energize the cultural and musical agenda of the city, strengthening the social fabric of the different neighborhoods of Cartagena, linking the talent of new generations.
